Upper Peninsula Tour-Day 1

My friend, Bonnie, and I left today for our second annual trip across the Upper Peninsula. Bonnie is combining this with a trip for her work where she calls on college bookstores. There is so much to do in the UP that although we are going to the same colleges, we are seeing different sights from last year. We left Caledonia around 7 am but made our first stop at Essential Bean, the best spot in Caledonia or West Michigan for coffee. Our next stop was Darrows Restaurant in Mackinaw City for whitefish sandwiches. The coffee shop in the picture above is in Bay Mills where I waited while Bonnie called on clients but it wasn't long before we were back on the road.

There were a couple of new scenic outlooks over Lake Superior and the beauty is breathtaking. The water was warm and we saw lots of kids in swimming.



We then went to Whitefish Point and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. There was a 1,000 foot frieghter out front which we haven't been able to identify yet. The weather was actually quite warm for there.
Our next stop was Taquamenon Falls where we visited both the upper and lower falls. Such a beautiful spot.


We finished our day with a stop at Pickleman's Pantry near Newberry for dinner. Our motel in Munising overlooks Lake Superior and the Pictured Rocks. The overnight temperature is going to be in the 40's so I think we will have to close our slider before long. The air is so clear and humidity-free, that we are really loving it here.

Never a Surprise to God

It has been nearly two weeks since we received the phone call with Tom’s test results telling us that his biopsy came back showing cancer.  One week has passed since we shared the news publicly.  Telling everyone was difficult.  How do you find the words to say such a thing? Tom chose to be public with his news.  A good friend who has taken the cancer journey before us recommended a CaringBridges page.  She found the comments from loved ones very helpful as she faced her treatments.   We are using this blog and Facebook instead of CaringBridges but the effect is the same.  Tom and I have been overwhelmed with the response of family, friends-both near and far.  Current friends and those we have lost touch with over the years.  We’ve heard from our pastor and Faith Bible Church family,  classmates, friends from our life in Florida, a former co-worker of Eric’s from his time in Minneapolis.  The notes from all o...

Just Following Doctor's Orders

Last week I told you about my fall while I was out running.  This occurred the same day the Hollywood actress died from her injuries in a simple fall while skiing.  This news spurred my daughter to insist that I get checked out by the doctor.  I went to see Dr. Davis that afternoon and she agreed with my opinion that I seemed fine.  However, her instructions for me was the prescription that I'm sure all of you would love to have: 1.  Get lots of rest & sleep 2.  Eat well 3.  No running for a couple of weeks That kind of life sounds great.  I did relax a bit more than usual the following day.  But then Tom & I babysat the four grandkids for three days and I forgot all about the resting part.  I think I always eat well especially since Sherry left several meals for us. I hope to return to running tomorrow because I don't seem to have any repercussions from the fall.  Even the scrape on my face is almost all healed.
