This Week at the Cabin

We have had a whirlwind of activity the past three weeks. So I'll tell you all about it but it may not flow chronologically.

June 11-14 we returned from the cabin to attend the NASCAR race in Brooklyn, MI. I was covering the race for InsiderRacingNews.com. We camped at the Michigan International Speedway campground. It was surprisingly a nice campground. We met some really nice people there and had lots of fun with them. Unbelievably, we camped by them in Branson. Tom had talked with their brother who was traveling with them. We decided that we were really meant to meet them. We hope to spend time with them again.

Writing at the racetrack is really hot, hard work but having Tom there made it better. We could meet often during the day.



We returned to the cabin on Monday with our oldest granddaughter Madelynn. We're having a good week watching boats, doing crafts and enjoying the sights of the Soo.

We are returning home on Saturday. The biggest news in our lives is that Tom and I have purchased the Benedict farm on 60th Street near Alto, Michigan. This is the farm where Tom moved when he was a year old. He lived there until we were married. We are very excited about this but our move date is still up in the air. We're hoping it will be sometime in June or early July. Tom's parent's called it The Busy Bee Farm and we're hoping it will be called that once again.


Last year the barn was voted Prettiest Barn in the Township. It really is a beautiful setting.

Never a Surprise to God

It has been nearly two weeks since we received the phone call with Tom’s test results telling us that his biopsy came back showing cancer.  One week has passed since we shared the news publicly.  Telling everyone was difficult.  How do you find the words to say such a thing? Tom chose to be public with his news.  A good friend who has taken the cancer journey before us recommended a CaringBridges page.  She found the comments from loved ones very helpful as she faced her treatments.   We are using this blog and Facebook instead of CaringBridges but the effect is the same.  Tom and I have been overwhelmed with the response of family, friends-both near and far.  Current friends and those we have lost touch with over the years.  We’ve heard from our pastor and Faith Bible Church family,  classmates, friends from our life in Florida, a former co-worker of Eric’s from his time in Minneapolis.  The notes from all o...

Just Following Doctor's Orders

Last week I told you about my fall while I was out running.  This occurred the same day the Hollywood actress died from her injuries in a simple fall while skiing.  This news spurred my daughter to insist that I get checked out by the doctor.  I went to see Dr. Davis that afternoon and she agreed with my opinion that I seemed fine.  However, her instructions for me was the prescription that I'm sure all of you would love to have: 1.  Get lots of rest & sleep 2.  Eat well 3.  No running for a couple of weeks That kind of life sounds great.  I did relax a bit more than usual the following day.  But then Tom & I babysat the four grandkids for three days and I forgot all about the resting part.  I think I always eat well especially since Sherry left several meals for us.
