One Year Later

It has been 7 months since I blogged.  There are several reasons.  First, we have been very busy.  Also, Tom has had to deal with another health crisis.  Since this past year has been so difficult, it is sometimes difficult to write about it.  I'll explain:

After the last blog entry, we left for Florida.  We were looking forward to a relaxing time of warm weather and days of fun with our community at Lake Bonnet Village.  But that isn't exactly how it happened.  We arrived safely in Florida and began to relax.  But after 10 days, Tom's Aunt Vivian had some major health issues.  Tom was Aunt Viv's guardian.  She had no immediate family and depended on nieces and nephews.  We loaded up the car and drove home to help her.  Once she was settled into a nursing home with appropriate care, we returned to Florida.

Our life in Florida is full of socializing with wonderful friends.  Here is a dinner at Bill and Carol Duck's home.  Wall-to-wall people makes for great fun.

Every day starts with a beautiful walk along the lake.

Things went smoothly for the next month.  Three of our grandchildren flew down for a visit.  We had a wonderful time with them.
We were so happy to see them at the airport

Hiking at Highlands Hammock State Park.  Our days were busy and full of fun.

We were making preparations to return home April 1.  The day before we planned to leave, Tom noticed swelling and redness in his right leg.  A quick trip to the ER revealed a large blood clot in his thigh. He was immediately hospitalized and began treatment with blood thinners.  The cause of the clot was determined to be the drug he was taking to reduce his chances of a recurrence of the cancer-Tamoxifen.  Blood clot is one of the 'rare' side effects.  Our trip home was delayed until the medication was working completely.

Our son Eric flew down to Florida to help me with the drive home.  Tom had to keep his leg elevated so we set him up in the back seat.  Eric made the trip fun by discovering wonderful places to eat and explore.  Not the usual meals for us when traveling.

We arrived home and settled back into life on the farm.  But another big change was on our horizon.  That will take another post to explain, but I will tell you that our address has changed.  We have moved to Leisure Creek Condominiums.
